We are happy to add this news page and share what’s happening at Sievers with you. Look for general news, photos, Sievers Gathering program and registration information, Island events, class updates (perhaps there’s a last minute opening in a previously filled class) and more. We plan to post news at least once each month, but I’m sure you’ll find that we’ve added something new more often than that. We hope you enjoy the Sievers News.
Winter Classes at Sievers
Beginning January 8th and ending February 5th, we held six “Sievers in Winter” classes with a total of 60 students learning quilting, knitting, basketry, sewing, weaving and altered imagery. Island resident teachers Ellen Graf, Kathleen Morris and Judie Yamamoto were joined by Dee Brown, Jeanette Biederman, Rich Prange and Donna Kallner who traveled to the Island, each instructor bringing their talents and enthusiasm helping us start the new year on a creative note.
“Aquafishy”
Tom Grade, papermaking instructor, sent us the Kleenex® box he recently designed for Kimberly- Clark. Entitled “Aquafishy”, it features handmade paper tropical fish “swimming” on an aquarium-blue background. Available across the country, we’ve found it at a nearby Target.
Sievers Scholarships
Each year we offer two scholarships based on artistic merit and financial need to students who wish to attend a Sievers class. The Elisabeth Beinert Scholarship, given in memory of a former student is designated for weaving classes, while the Doreen Speckmann Scholarship, given in memory of a former instructor, applies to all classes. The application deadline for 2008 is April 1st, with notification of award on April 10th. Last year’s recipient attended the weekend Landscape Bead Embroidery class. Contact us by phone, email or through the online registration form for a scholarship application.
