We will work with a variety of different fibers and cover basic techniques, such as beaten bark processing, molding, casting, embossing, embedding and air brush dyeing. Once you are familiar with the basics, you’ll use these techniques to design and create your own projects. You may choose to make boxes, bowls, cards, stationery, etc. in this enjoyable introduction to creativity with paper. $40 materials fee includes various pulps, coldwater dyes, paints and other related materials. 32 - Paper: Varying Degrees & Beyond - Class Fee $ 360 Thomas Grade This class is designed to offer a broad spectrum of techniques in an exciting medium, while working on a variety of different fibers. We will explorefrom the beaten bark forms of Mexico to the floating molds of Asia, along with the Western techniques of pulp painting, stenciling, pulp spraying and castinggiving you a diverse range of handmade papers. You’ll go on to create a garden totem, incorporating what you have learned. The class will also aid in problem solving, and more time can be devoted to the development of personal ideas and their translation into paper form. Materials fee of $75 includes a reading list, materials source list and slide lecture, along with the various pulps, coldwater dyes, paints and other related materials used in class. This class is excellent for papermakers who wish for more creative studio time. 35 - Making Silk Fiber “Paper” & What To Do With It - Class Fee $ 200 Deb Menz Silk “paper” is a fabric created from combed but unspun silk fibers that are adhered together with an acrylic medium. The fabric does not unravel and can be used in many ways. This class will cover the basics of how to dye the silk fibers, how to make the “paper,” and the many finished uses for it. You can make bookmarks, ornaments, bags; you can stitch into it, embroider it, and embellish it with beads and braids. It can be 3-dimensional, used to cover books and journals, or used in art quilts and collagesthe list goes on. We will try to do as much as time and your imagination will allow. Materials fee of $30 includes silk fibers, screen, bottle of medium, needle and bag of beads, assorted yarns, use of rubber stamps and ink, as well as fabric paints and brushes. For the beginner; no experience necessary. 50 - Handmade Paper Lampshades - Class Fee $ 200 Michelle Workowski Do you have a treasured lamp in hiding, waiting for you to find ‘just the right’ shade for it? Bring it out of the closet by making your own custom lampshade, choosing from a variety of handmade papers, and various barks and fibers to trim it. You will begin with a small shade (4” x 10” x 7”) to practice the techniques. Then, you may select from numerous different sizes and shapes of forms, including octagon, hexagon and square, to make as many shades as time will allow. Specialized tools will be available for your use in class as well as for purchase, in addition to shade forms and a wide variety of handmade papers. Expect to spend $5 25 per shade, depending on size and paper choice. Geared for beginners. |
